a. Identify the safety symbols used in a Science laboratory.

b. Describe the safety guidelines of a Science laboratory.

c. Create a Science Laboratory Safety poster.

Assessment Activity

Informal Evaluations-Teacher will make observations during all lectures, discussions, and independent assignments of identifying the safety symbols and describing the safety guidelines. Teacher will also make observations of students during presentationsof Science Laboratory Safety posters.

Independent Activities-Students will read their section on Science Laboratory Safety and create their poster.

Group Project-Students will get with people of the same safety group and discuss their posters to make a presentation to the group.

Unit Exam-Students will take a unit exam of Science laboratory safety.

Learning Activity

The students will:

1. Take a sheet of large white construction paper. Recieve one of the seven danger areas.  Eye Safety..Sharp/pointed Objects..Heat..Electricity..chemicals..animal safety..and Plant Safety.

2. Read the section of safety to identify the symbols and understand the safety guidelines.  Be sure to look at the safety symbol that is assigned to the topic. On their sheet of paper, put the title, draw the symbol(s), and give a brief description of the area.

3. Join together to discuss posters and choose one person from each group to be the spokesperson. That person gives an oral presentation of the area.

4. Complete an unit exam will be given over all safety guidelines and symbols.

Instructional Method

The teacher will:

 1.  Pass out white construction paper and assign each student one area to research.  Areas include:  Eye Safety..Sharp/pointed Objects..Heat..Electricity..chemicals..animal safety..and Plant Safety

2.  Observe as students read their sections on safety.  Guide students as they work on their posters.  Observe to see that students complete posters as asked.

3.  Discuss with students their posters and maintain control during student discussion.
