Local Objective

At the end of this unit the students will be able to:

1.  Identify three-dimensional figures.

2.  Draw various views of three-dimensional figures.

3.  Find volumes of prisms.

4.  Find volumes of circular cylinders.

5.  Find the surface area of prisms.

6.  Find the surface area if cylinders.

Objective used to evaluate students

Yes

Assessment Activity

Students will be assessed by:

1.  Using the Three Dimensional Figures worksheet  to show students can identify three-dimensional figures and draw various views of three-dimensional figures.

2.  Using the Volume: Prisms and Cylinders worksheet   to show students can find volumes of prisms and find volumes of circular cylinders.

3.  Using the Surface Area: Prisms and Cylinders worksheet  to show students can find the surface area of prisms and find the surface area if cylinders.

Learning Activity

During whole group instruction, students will:

1.  Take notes from the Smart board, follow along as teacher works example problems, and then work guided practice problems on identifying three-dimensional figures.

2.  Take notes from the Smart board, follow along as teacher works example problems, and then work guided practice problems on drawing various views of three-dimensional figures.

3.  Take notes from the Smart board, follow along as teacher works example problems, and then work guided practice problems on finding volumes of prisms.

4.  Take notes from the Smart board, follow along as teacher works example problems, and then work guided practice problems on finding volumes of circular cylinders.

5.  Take notes from the Smart board, follow along as teacher works example problems, and then work guided practice problems on finding the surface area of prisms.

6.  Take notes from the Smart board, follow along as teacher works example problems, and then work guided practice problems on finding the surface area if cylinders.

During independent work time, students will complete the:
1.  Three Dimensional Figures worksheet
2.  Volume: Prisms and Cylinders worksheet
3.  Surface Area: Prisms and Cylinders worksheet

Instructional Method

During whole group instruction, the teacher will:

1.  Use prepared notes to discuss, model examples, and provide guided practice problems, and correct as neccessary, on identifying three-dimensional figures.

2.  Use prepared notes to discuss, model examples, and provide guided practice problems, and correct as neccessary, on drawing various views of three-dimensional figures.

3.  Use prepared notes to discuss, model examples, and provide guided practice problems, and correct as neccessary, on finding volumes of prisms.

4.  Use prepared notes to discuss, model examples, and provide guided practice problems, and correct as neccessary, on finding volumes of circular cylinders.

5.  Use prepared notes to discuss, model examples, and provide guided practice problems, and correct as neccessary, on finding the surface area of prisms.

6.  Use prepared notes to discuss, model examples, and provide guided practice problems, and correct as neccessary, on finding the surface area if cylinders.

While students are wokring on independent problems, teacher will observe and assist those students having difficulties.
