Learning Activity

The Students will:

1. Begin this in-depth research project by receiving a folder, a scoring guide, a research plan, and a country. Use their scoring guides to determine what it is that they will need to research.

2. Spend several days at the library and at the computer lab using multiple resources to acquire information that is relevant and reliable. Be active in discussions that will take place on information sources and age. Listen to class lecture about things that are needed to be able to cite information; collect that information as well.

3. Once adequate information is collected, take their information and organize it appropriately. An appropriate format is included in their research plan. When information is organized, start writing a rough draft.

4. Upon completion of rough draft, return to the lab to type their final draft. Use resources such as the dictionary, a thesaurus, and spell-check to help spell correctly.

5. Create a power point to show during presentations. Power point presentations are extremely helpful during audience note-taking.

6. Once papers are typed, make a presentation to classmates about their country. Display country flag and country map. Peers will be actively engaged by taking notes, asking questions, and acting appropriately.

7. A country exam over all countries will take place at the end of all presentations.

The Teacher will:

1.  Discuss the research project by reviewing the folder, scoring guide, the research plan, and the countries.  Discuss different note-taking procedures. (i.e. charts, webs, etc.)

3.  Demonstrate to students how to complete their outline and how to write their rough draft.  Important to demonstrate to students how to organize their information.

4.  Assist students with the typing of their final draft reports.  Assist students with using additonal resources such as dictionaries, thesaurus, and spell-check.
