Assessment Activity
Informal Evaluations-Teacher observations will be made during all guided practice. Several sentences will be used for lecture and student understanding. Guided practice will help students learn to use quotation marks correctly in direct quotations and to use quotation marks and underlining in titles.
Independent Activities-Daily assignments will be made as necessary after quided practice is accomplished and achieved. In independent practice, students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of using quotation marks correctly in direct quotations and using quotation marks and underlining in titles.

Learning Activity
The students will:
1. Understand the usage of quotation marks. When using quotation marks, answer the following three questions. One, who is the speaker? Two, what are the speaker's exact words? And three, where do the quotation marks go?
2. Write down a conversation you've had with someone recently. Try and write at least five sentences that were exchanged during the conversation. Identify who the speaker is for each sentence and add the correct punctuation.
3. Understand that some titles get quotation marks and some titles get underlined. On the markerboard, using several titles, decide which will get underlined and which will not.
Instructional Method
The teacher will:
1. When trying to understand the usage of quotation marks, students should answer to following three questions. One, who is the speaker? Two, what are the speaker's exact words? And three, where do the quotation marks go?
2. Students should write down a conversation they had with someone recently. Students should try and write at least five sentences that were exchanged during the conversation. Have students go back and identify who the speaker is for each sentence and add the correct punctuation. Students will be able to show an understanding for using quotation marks correctly in direct quotes.
3. Students need to understand that some titles get quotation marks and some titles get underlined. On the markerboard, write several titles. Discuss that books, newspapers, magazines, movies, and TV shows get underlined; however, article names, short stories, chapter titles, songs, and poems get quotation marks.
