At the end of this unit the students will be able to:

1.  Find the square and square roots.

2.  Estimate square roots.

3.  Identify and compare numbers in the real number system.

4.  Solve equations by finding square roots.

5.  Find the missing angle measure of a triangle.

6.  Classify triangles by properties and attributes.

7.  Identify corresponding parts and find missing measures of similar polygons.

8.  Solve problems involving indirect measurement using similar triangles.

Objective used to evaluate students

Yes

Assessment Activity

Students will be assessed:

1.  Using the Square and Square Roots worksheet  to show students can find the square and square roots and estimate square roots.

2.  Using the Real Number System worksheet  to show students can identify and compare numbers in the real number system and solve equations by finding square roots.

3.  Using the Triangles worksheet  to show students can find the missing angle measuer of a triangle and classify triangles by properties and attributes.

4.  Using the Similar Figures and Indirect Measurment worksheet  to show students can identify corresponding parts and find missing measures of similar polygons and solve problems involving indirect measurement using similar triangles.

Instructional Method

During whole group instruction, the teacher will:

1.  Use prepared notes to discuss, model examples, and provide guided practice problems, and correct as neccessary, on finding the square and square roots.

2.  Use prepared notes to discuss, model examples, and provide guided practice problems, and correct as neccessary, on estimating square roots.

3.  Use prepared notes to discuss, model examples, and provide guided practice problems, and correct as neccessary, on identifying and comparing numbers in the real number system.

4.  Use prepared notes to discuss, model examples, and provide guided practice problems, and correct as neccessary, on solving equations by finding square roots.

5.  Use prepared notes to discuss, model examples, and provide guided practice problems, and correct as neccessary, on finding the missing angle measure of a triangle.

6.  Use prepared notes to discuss, model examples, and provide guided practice problems, and correct as neccessary, on classifying triangles by properties and attributes.

7.  Use prepared notes to discuss, model examples, and provide guided practice problems, and correct as neccessary, on identifying corresponding parts and find missing measures of similar polygons.

8.  Use prepared notes to discuss, model examples, and provide guided practice problems, and correct as neccessary, on solving problems involving indirect measurement using similar triangles.

While students are working on independent problems, teacher will observe and assist those students having difficulties.
